 IT IS TRAGIC HOW WE HAVE LOWERED THE STANDARDS OF LEADERSHIP!.


It is tragic how we have lowered the levels of leadership in our country and this pathetic low levels can be seen clearly at community level. The pathetic and mediocrity manifests itself at different sectors of our society. There was one a time when leadership was a preserve of those who display exceptional leadership qualities in leading the society in leading the efforts in seeking solutions to the problems and challenges ravaging society. It was this high standard(Political, ideological, intellectual and moral) which ensured that those who aspired to be leaders always made an effort to improve and develop themselves so as to fit the profile of what is a leader. Unfortunately by dropping the standards we have opened the gates for the lazy,corrupt who have always viewed leadership as an accumulation vehicle for themselves ,their families and friends, instead of it being a vehicle to make contributions in advancing and developing humanity. This constitutes a serious threat to any future prospects of our society.

When one talks of leadership I am referring not only to the political sphere but I am referring also to the Business,Religion, Sports,ect. In an effort to dissect this phenomenon we have to go back to the structure of the country's economy, the poor state of the economy is one of the contributing factors which have led to people seeing leadership positions as a ticket out of abject poverty. This explains the willingness and preparedness by people to kill each other for positions of leadership, it has become a matter of life or death. We are now subjected to leadership of people who suffer from intellectual, political, ideological and moral malnutrition ,these are the people who do not read or have not read any book about leadership. These are the people who lack vision, their only drive is private accumulation at all costs and with whatever means necessary.

With this type of leadership, the leadership which offers nothing in terms of providing leadership to the society, how then do we expect to find solutions to the problems and challenges confronting society when led by such mediocre leadership.?.We need to snap out of this slumber and reclaim the leadership reigns from the opportunists currently leading our society. These fellows cannot even present any coherent and cohesive program, worse they cannot articulate any program in terms of developing our community. It is shocking to say the least, they will go around recruiting people to join their political organization using the promise of jobs(jobs that are a competence of the Municipality),it is also disgusting because these so-called leaders cannot articulate any program hence they resort to manipulation. Not just manipulation but tapping on the desperate situation our masses find themselves in and abusing it for political millage. They know people are finding themselves in abject poverty and will join their dying organization when promised jobs.

We have a duty to raise the bar interms of leadership so as to close out these fellows.

 WHAT HAS BECOME OF THE TSHIAME SPECIAL ECONOMIC ZONE(SEZ)?. Tshiame in Harrismith under the Maluti A Phofung Local Municipality in the Free State province is one of the areas which have been earmarked to benefit by having the Special Economic Zone.The Special Economic Zones within South Africa are geographically designated areas set aside for specifically targeted economic activities to promote national economic growth and exports by using support measures to attract foreign and domestic investments and technology . SEZ is an area in which the business and trade laws are different from the rest of the country.One of the major advantages of Special Economic Zones is that there is a clause of total exemption of the income tax on the income incurred via export through these SEZs.  THE COMMUNITY OF GREATER TSHIAME FACES A BLEAK FUTURE UNDER THE MALUTI A PHOFUNG LOCAL MUNICIPALITY!. In my adult life I have not known any community which has had more misfortunes than the community of Greater Tshiame when it comes to the electricity and water provision. In the time just under a decade we have had close to five incidents of total power outage with the first major incident occurring in December of 2014 and the power was only restored in January of 2015. The second incident occurred in October of 2015 with the power only being restored in December of 2015. The third incident occurred in December of 2021, the power was only restored in January 2022. The fourth incident took place in February of 2023 with power only restored after three weeks. In all of the above mentioned incidents the community had to hit the streets in a protest before power was restored.
